Good afternoon. I'd like to tell you about our dacha. What we plant, what grows in our garden, what berries we grow, what flowers we have.
Our dacha community is over fifty years old. We bought our dacha in October 2011. This is what it looked like.
Like now
We renovated the house ourselves, installed plastic windows, re-roofed it, added a terrace-gazebo, built a new shed, woodshed, toilet, shower, installed a metal fence and gates, built two greenhouses, and planted flower beds.
We planted a small lawn, but the grass wasn't quite right; it turned out lumpy. We decided to pull out all the grass and sow white clover. We're also planning to create a work area for cutting firewood and grilling kebabs. We don't have one yet; we have an old grill, a fish drying rack, old tables, and iron stoves. We need to set up a children's corner and a small recreation area, but for now there's only a bench. We also plan to make paths and lay paving stones near the threshold.
There's a lot of work at the dacha, and we don't have time to do everything on time. We fight the grass, but the beds periodically become overgrown with weeds. Then pests proliferate—aphids, ants, weevils, mites, caterpillars—and we have to poison and destroy them. We also have to water, till, and fertilize.
We live in Siberia, and our climate is anything but southern. Some of our plants freeze periodically. This year, everyone's winter garlic, tulips, and phlox froze, along with some fruit trees and some lilies. We have to replant things every year.
What is growing here?
It's the middle of summer now. Let me show you what's growing in our garden...
Cucumbers, eggplants and peppers grow in a small greenhouse.
Tomatoes and peppers are planted in another greenhouse. Watermelons have been planted around the edges.
Most of the garden is occupied by potatoes.
Late white cabbage grows here.
This small bed is with early cabbage, beets are growing along the edge, summer garlic is growing on the other side, and root parsley is growing along the other edge.
This year, my cabbage has been attacked by unknown pests since spring. There were no caterpillars or flea beetles on the leaves. But the leaves were full of holes. There are a lot of two-tailed worms in the area; maybe they're eating the leaves, or maybe slugs. Since this cabbage is early, we were afraid to use store-bought treatments. We resorted to folk remedies, spraying with an infusion of onion and garlic, and sprinkling it with ash and tobacco. The lower leaves of the cabbage are all full of holes. I thought the heads would be chewed too, but they're clean inside.
A bed of onions and two beds of carrots.
Black radish was planted here.
These are zucchini, with green manure growing in the foreground. We'll mow them down and dig them into the ground in a few days, preparing a bed for strawberries.
Here on the compost heap there are pumpkins growing.
Horseradish grows under the apple tree.
This is the first time we have sown turnips.
Hot peppers are growing separately in a box.
A small bed of greens - curly parsley, cilantro, basil, radishes.
Here we made a bed with mini peppers and watermelons; this is the first time we planted watermelons outside.
This bed was supposed to be for winter garlic, but it froze, and the remaining tomato seedlings were planted in its place.
Sunflowers grow along the fence.
Dill, calendula, chamomile, and other flowers are growing spontaneously throughout the garden. We pull out some of the spontaneous plants, and leave the rest.
This is the virtual tour we've created. It would be interesting to see what you're growing in your gardens. Share photos of your harvest.
Thank you for your attention!
