I have already written about the benefits and harms of dandelions for the garden and vegetable garden (you can read here). Now I'll tell you about tinctures—how to use them and prepare them for fertilizer and pest control. Of course, there are countless options online, but I always recommend only those that I've personally tested.
I use all the parts, but I dry them first so I can make winter remedies for indoor plants. Unfortunately, I haven't collected the roots yet (I do that in the fall, and now it's summer), but the above-ground parts are already dried periodically:
How to make dandelion fertilizer?
I've adapted to making a universal fertilizer, so I use it for absolutely all my garden crops and indoor flowers. This natural fertilizer is rich in phosphorus, potassium, iron, molybdenum, calcium, magnesium, and other minerals, providing comprehensive nutrition for both the soil and the crops.
So, how I make this fertilizer:
- I collect dandelions—the above-ground parts. I weigh about 1.4-1.5 kg. If the grass is already dry, half is enough, or 700-750 grams.
- I chop it finely – you can use pruning shears if you’re short on time.
- I pour it into a 20-liter bucket.
- I fill it with 10 liters of slightly warm water.
- I expose it to direct sunlight for a couple of weeks (depending on the weather), sometimes longer.
Readiness is checked like this: during fermentation, a high foam will form, then she disappears.
This indicates that the plants have rotted. Oh, and there's also an unpleasant odor—like rot.
After this, strain the remaining dandelions, put them in a compost pit, and dilute the liquid fertilizer in equal proportions with water and feed the crops.
Dandelion infusion against pests
Dandelions contain a lot of phytoncides, etc., which destroy most pests and fungi. I prepare the remedy like this:
- for 10 liters of water I take 300-400 g of dandelions;
- I insist for 24 hours;
- I strain;
- I spray.
That's all, enjoy these recipes.

We also add dandelions to the herbal fermentation, the whole plant. We fertilize all the vegetables, especially in the spring. And cucumbers and peppers all summer long. Everything grows very well after this kind of feeding. But you should try making a tincture to control pests. Aphids attack currants and cherries, and I don't want to use pesticides because the berries are already ripe.
