I've had a real problem this year – I planted onion sets, and they only produced normal green shoots once. Then the shoots started falling off:

I decided to figure out what was going on and found out that there were several reasons for this:
- The first reason I ended up like this is because there was a lot of shade and almost no sun (there was no other room for the onions). So the onion tips all started leaning in one direction, right toward the sun.
- The second reason is excessive humidity. This year, we had standing water even by the end of July. In fact, the groundwater level is only 50 cm below the soil surface. And this is despite the fact that I haven't watered it at all.
There are other possible causes, such as infrequent watering or dense planting, but not in my case. It could also be caused by mosaic virus, onion fly, nutrient deficiency, powdery mildew, cutworm infestation, or soil acidification.
But this onion of mine is growing under the open rays of the sun - it is already old, so the fact that some of the feathers are falling off does not mean anything.
