Autumn planting of tulips

Summer flew by so quickly. September is already drawing to a close, painting the trees and shrubs with incredibly vibrant colors.

Flowers

There haven't been any frosts yet, the days are warm, but the nights are chilly. My flowers have drooped from the constant rain and dampness. I dream of radically changing my flowerbeds this spring, planting new perennials and shrubs. Very soon, I'll pull out the annuals and start planning the flowerbeds.

In the meantime, I've planted tulips in the new spot. I used to plant house geraniums there in the spring, but I've already dug them up and taken them home.

And the low-growing marigolds in pots, I moved them to a different location. Now I'll have a small patch of tulips in the foreground of one of the flower beds.

I didn't dig up my tulips for years and waited until they were all gone. Last fall, I planted three new varieties, and since mid-May, they've been adorning our dacha with their blooms.

Tulips

In the summer, when their leaves had withered and started to dry out, I dug them up, washed them, dried them thoroughly, and stored them in a box until planting time. I dug up my old tulips too; I had to throw out some of the bulbs right away because they were rotten.

At the beginning of September, I bought two more varieties of tulips: an orange multi-flowered one, which will have 2-3 flowers on one stem, and a yellow one with large flowers.

Seeds

Before planting, I examined all the bulbs; the bulbs of three varieties were firm and without spots.

And my old ones are all stained, with moldy dents on the tubers.

I selected the ones with fewer spots and will plant them separately, somewhere on the edge of the flower bed.

The bulbs of the two new varieties are large, firm, and healthy, but only one yellow tulip bulb was soft and I threw it away.

I soaked the tulips for half an hour in a pink solution of potassium permanganate.

Onions

I dug up the soil beforehand, watered it with phytosporin, added well-rotted manure and ash, and added dry sand to the bottom. I planted each tulip variety in a hole, each three bulbs deep, and lightly sprinkled the holes with ash.

I'll cover them with a layer of humus later. I haven't watered the plants since it rains every day here in Krasnoyarsk. I hope the tulips survive the winter well and we'll enjoy their blooms in the spring.
