Beauty agave

Last year, a neighbor vacationed in Sochi and brought back some Agave americana seedlings. This stemless plant has thick, wide leaves. It can reach a height of 2 meters!

Unfortunately, agave only grows in tropical climates, so in our climate, it must be repotted and brought indoors for the winter. Otherwise, at the first frost, the gelatinous component of the leaves will freeze, and the plant will die. :)

My neighbor immediately planted the seedlings in large pots. It's very convenient—no need to worry about replanting and easy to rearrange around the property. The agave grew a bit over the course of a year, but the promised half-meter of foliage growth never materialized.

Most likely, the root system is limited in growth, which is why the aboveground part isn't developing. Repotting it into larger pots is pointless, and it's a shame to move it into the ground, knowing the agave will die in winter. So the neighbor left her exotic plant. "Better to have a small agave in stock than a large one in Sochi," she jokes.

This year I went to the coast again. The plants there are beautiful, majestic. They can't compare to the ones at home!

Benefits of Agave

The arboretum's caretakers say agave juice is beneficial for insect bites and skin rashes. Traditional medicine recommends using fresh juice and infusions to treat kidney stones, as a choleretic, and for toothaches and stomatitis.

Agave is a component of some homeopathic preparations aimed at relieving fever and pain, combating inflammatory processes and disinfecting wounds.

Use agave herbal raw materials for medicinal purposes only after consulting a doctor!

So it turns out that you can't fool nature at home: you need to grow "our" flowers, and admire the exotic ones on vacation.

Agave is a kind plant that will bring peace and tranquility to your home. I also have an agave at home, and it's worth noting that it loves full sun and, of course, requires special attention. I water it once or twice a week, and I recommend you do the same. Good luck and happiness to everyone!

Unfortunately, I don't live on the sunny side of the house. That means no sunlight hits our windows all day. But I really love flowers. In the summer, I'll look at the gladioli and dahlias in the yard and smile all over. Flowers make us kinder and friendlier, and indoor flowers always have a beneficial effect and purify the air.
