Clematis flammea: another decoration for my flowerbed

Aromatic honey plant
Our clematis.
He is of unearthly beauty,
The whole fence was entwined with itself,

As if the bush was covered with snow,
The scent attracts bees.
Bees are flying over the flower
They collect fragrant honey.

White clematis

I recently planted a small-flowered clematis.

I bought it at the beginning of summer, when I'd already planted annual seedlings and all the space was taken up by flowers. I needed a perennial, winter-hardy plant that would grow over the mesh fence and bloom beautifully. I wanted to plant it in the same spot where I plant my peas. The peas haven't been growing well lately; they don't fully cover the mesh.

I decided to buy a couple of clematis (another name for this flower), which overwinter well and bloom beautifully at our dachas. I chose native clematis – Clematis striata (small-flowered clematis) and Clematis tangutica (clematis tangutica).

The garden center only had clematis spp. The seedlings were very puny, each with a single, thin shoot.

I planted a small sprout near the path; if it takes root, I’ll transplant it next spring into the flower bed near the chain-link fence.

What does the plant look like?

Clematis spp., or clematis, is a perennial shrubby vine. It belongs to the buttercup family and is a climbing, easy-to-grow plant. It tolerates adverse weather conditions and is frost-hardy. Flowers form on the current year's shoots.

Over the summer, a single branch of clematis grew and in mid-July even bloomed with small white flowers with four petals.

The center of the flower features light yellow anthers, like lovely eyelashes. Numerous flowers are gathered into panicle-shaped inflorescences.

The plant's leaves are small and green. The stems are flexible and twining.

Over the summer, the clematis grew and unexpectedly flowers bloomed on one branch in September.

In the fall, I trimmed the stem slightly, added humus under the bush, and covered it with dry marigold tops to retain snow.

In the spring, I removed the marigolds and sprinkled urea under the bush. The clematis took a long time to sprout. Could it have frozen? In my impatience, I dug up the humus and discovered shoots.

I didn’t replant it, let it grow on the edge of the path.

The clematis sent up three shoots and sprouted side branches. They grew quickly, and I had to insert a stake next to the bush and tie the shoots in place. By mid-July, the bush was in full bloom.

Two years later, it had grown even more shoots with numerous panicle-shaped inflorescences. My husband constructed a support structure for it, and the flower entwined it with its tenacious branches.

Trellis for clematis

The clematis bloomed long and profusely. Bees circled above, collecting nectar from the fragrant flowers.

After flowering, clematis looks very decorative.

Wilted clematis

In place of the flowers, seeds form with long, shaggy, white feathers. I call them spiders.

My clematis is still young, but with time it will turn into a luxurious flowering vine and will decorate the dacha.

In the neighboring area, clematis has beautifully twined around the gazebo, serving as both decoration and protection from the sun.

I read online that clematis reproduces by self-seeding, but I think self-seeding will be difficult in Siberia. It's better to propagate clematis by cuttings. I'll definitely try that, and see if it works.

Clematis pruriens is also a medicinal plant. It is used to treat the cardiovascular system, atherosclerosis, diabetes, and many other ailments.

Clematis striata is not only a very beautiful plant, but also a useful one!
