Can our city dachas really be called villages? I think so, because we have gardens, animals, and the usual village problems. Civilization, in the form of gas and running water, is a relatively recent development. But roads are still nonexistent…
When we bought our property here, all the houses were small, and 80% of them were uninhabited. There was no one around our dacha, only some summer residents visited during the gardening season. So the first thing we did was fence the property. We installed a 2-meter-high corrugated metal fence along the front.
And from the neighbors they put up a solid fence, turning into a closed canopy.
We installed two huge polycarbonate windows. Last year, during a severe weather event, they were damaged by hailstones the size of chicken eggs.
In the utility area of the yard, this fence was slightly modified: the upper part was made of polycarbonate to let in light, and a gate was installed for our neighbor.
About that the height and material of the fence are regulated by law, They didn't know. The main thing was to secure their yard and establish clear boundaries. It turns out that:
- The height of the fence along the roadway may not be higher than 2.2 m.
- To protect neighbors from the elements, it is permitted to install lattice wooden fences or chain-link fencing no more than 1.5 meters high. The main thing is that they are ventilated and do not cast a shadow on the neighboring property.
It turns out we violated the second rule of the law by installing such a fence-canopy. There were three ways to remedy the situation:
- Redesign the entire structure.
- Buy a meter of land from your neighbors.
- Get a receipt from the neighbors that they are not against such a fence, have no complaints and are happy with everything.
In the first case, the material and physical costs are enormous. The third option is the easiest. However, if the neighbors change, we might have to go back to the first solution. We settled on the second option—the neighbor is delighted, as she needs the money, and the boundary between us (the boundary line) will remain tentatively in place, only the paperwork will change. This means she can still use the land, and we can live peacefully, since the shed is now a meter from the boundary, and there's no fence between us at all.
In our village, few people care about proper fencing. Some have no fence at all, while others build 3-meter-high walls around their property.
Metal fences made of profiles are popular at summer cottages.
Here too there will be a metal profile between the brick foundations.
And here for six months now we have this version made of a metal arch and a canopy.
Old iron fences are often unsightly, unpainted for a long time, and rusty.
There are fences made of concrete structures.
And there are houses where the fence is not visible because nature has taken over – it is covered with hops.
Lots of picket fences. But most likely, where a new house is built on the site of an old dacha, a new fence will soon go up as well.
These are the different owners, the different decisions regarding fencing, and the different problems that come with it. As long as no one monitors this aspect of the law, no one cares about its terms.
