What medicinal products are prepared from milk thistle?

Greetings to all fans of traditional medicine! I decided to write about milk thistle because I accidentally came across it in a clearing, and I used to use it a lot. I already wrote about it myself. thistle, his beneficial propertiesNow I'll tell you what you can make from this medicinal herb, and then I'll describe recipes for specific problems. I've kept all these recipes in my folk medicine notebook for many years.

The recipes have been personally and time-tested, so don't be afraid to apply them in your life.

Universal tincture

ThistleI'm not a fan of alcohol-based tinctures for internal use (I only recommend using them for skin treatments), so I've never made an alcohol-based tincture. I've, however, been actively using water-based tinctures. They're suitable for any purpose, but you should consult your doctor about dosage.

How to cook:

  1. Place 4 tablespoons of dry and crushed green parts of milk thistle into a thermos.
  2. Pour 1 liter of boiling water.
  3. Let it brew for 2.5 hours.
  4. Strain.

As a preventative measure, we drank 100 ml on an empty stomach. To improve the taste, I always added honey instead of sugar, as it had a better effect.

Decoctions

These decoctions are also universal. There are only two of them:

  • From inflorescences. For 200 ml of water, take 1 tablespoon of inflorescences (I chop them first). Place the pan on the stove and simmer for 10-15 minutes after boiling. Then leave it covered for 3 hours. We drank 100 ml. This decoction is excellent for insomnia, cleanses the liver, and reduces nervousness.
  • From the roots. For 300 ml of water, you'll need 1 tablespoon of chopped roots. Boil for 10 minutes, then let cool and strain. We used 100 ml three times a day for coughs and bronchitis.

Syrup

We used milk thistle syrup for coughs and sore throats. It's excellent for softening and removing mucus:

  1. Mix 1 tablespoon of herbs (any parts except roots) and sugar in a container.
  2. Pour in 200 ml of water.
  3. Place in a double boiler and simmer until the liquid reaches a syrupy consistency. It usually reduces by half.

You can drink 2-3 tablespoons several times a day.

Juice

The juice can be taken internally and used externally. To be honest, we never took it orally because we didn't know the exact dosage. It's pure juice, highly concentrated. So, we usually applied it to the skin for wounds, acne, and pimples. We simply soaked a cotton pad in the juice.

The juice is taken from fresh leaves and stems. How you squeeze it is up to you. At the time, we simply chopped it finely and squeezed it out.

Shrot

Few people know what meal is. It's actually finely ground plant seeds. Here are some tips:

  • try to grind it to the consistency of flour, since coarse grinding is not very pleasant to eat;
  • For grinding, use modern equipment - a blender, an electric coffee grinder;
  • The meal should be taken on an empty stomach, 1-2 teaspoons, and then twice more 30-50 minutes before meals (less for prevention, more for treatment);
  • Wash it down with only clean water, not compote, milk, tea, etc., because the product must enter the body in its pure form.

The meal is used to treat the liver, bile ducts, etc.

Oil

The oil is used internally and externally for various purposes, but I've never made it myself, so I can't offer any advice. You can buy the oil at a pharmacy, and you can also read the instructions there.

These are the recipes I have in my arsenal. Just remember to harvest and store the herb properly! And if you decide to grow your own milk thistle, read on. Here.
