How I Treated a Plum Disease – Plum Pockets

I already wrote about how I discovered plum trees and determined what disease they had – here HereNow I want to tell you how I got rid of the problem. So, the main condition that I found most dangerous was plum pockets. It looks like this:

What I did:

  • I trimmed off the damaged branches, and in the end, I ended up with almost trunks. Unfortunately, I didn't take any photos of all this; I somehow missed it.
  • I treated it with a 3% Bordeaux mixture. I did this three times – in early June, late August, and October (it was still warm here).
  • I constantly collected all the branches and leaves under the trees and burned all the above-ground parts.

I didn't use any other products because I believe Bordeaux mixture is a universal solution—it works great against almost all types of fungi and pests. Here's a before photo:

And this is already the following year, when the trees have almost completely recovered:

As you can see from the photo, the leaves are now healthy, but the fruit is still suffering, even though I treated it again with Bordeaux mixture in early spring. I read that plum pockets can't be eliminated with anything in one or even two or three years. So, I treated it three times this season, pruned, etc.

I sprayed the trees again the following spring, but that wasn't necessary anymore. Look how beautiful the trees themselves are:
