Mushrooms during quarantine

Hello, dear readers! I wanted to share with you the results of a quiet hunt during the 2020 quarantine. After a long period of sitting at home, in August I decided to go fishing immediately! Plus, hunting season had begun—we wanted to shoot some ducks, to indulge our senses. So off we went in search of prey…

Place - Samara region, Volga channels near the city of Oktyabrsk.

I can't resist writing a few words about nature... Guys, it's so beautiful here! Even the swampy creeks are breathtaking! What can you say about Turkey and the UAE... just look at this:

We spent four hours wandering the channels in search of game. We cast our rods and spinning reels. As luck would have it, there were no ducks or fish. And our boat had a motor, a fast 40. We drove all over the area, licked all the reeds, but nothing. Then, quite by chance, we wandered into a small forest, and there—mushrooms growing! So many, their eyes were worth five rubles!

It's a shame I didn't have the nerve to take a photo of this moment. We rushed off to pick them... But our joy didn't last long. The mushrooms were all wormy and snotty. It had rained the day before, making the area damp, plus there were a lot of parasites. And the mushrooms were already quite overgrown—they were very large.

We found something that was more or less edible. But it's still a good catch for one family!

We brought the mushrooms home, cut them up, and scattered them into bags. Then the haul went straight into the freezer. But, of course, we saved one portion for frying and mushroom soup. Our mouths were watering!

And the most interesting thing is, after trying the mushroom soup, we all had a terrible reaction… The bitterness was terribly bad! One of the mushrooms (or maybe more than one) turned out to be false (likely a bitterling or a satanic mushroom, which looks very similar to a white mushroom). As a result, we had to boil the entire frozen mushroom five times to remove the bitterness. And only then freeze it again.

If you see this parasite in the photo, please let me know. Although we weren't picking mushrooms blindly—we had a mushroom-picking dad with us—we still ended up with a bad case of "getting caught."
