Hello everyone! Today I'm going to talk about an exotic breed, using Marquise as an example. She's a gentle cat who loves warmth and being handled. She's raised in a family with children. She's a very social cat.
Brief information about the breed:
- Breed name: Exotic cat.
- Country of origin: USA.
- Time of origin of the breed: 1960s.
- Weight: 3-6.5 kg.
- Life expectancy: 12-15 years.
The Exotic cat is one of the most popular breeds in the world. The secret to its success lies in its kind, friendly nature and very sweet facial expression.
Appearance:
- The head is round in shape and quite massive.
- The eyes are set far apart and level. They are large and round in shape.
- The ears are small in size and round in shape.
- The nose is wide, short and upturned.
- Body – medium, closer to large size.
- Limbs are strong, short, massive.
- The paws are large and round.
- The tail is rather short.
- The coat is thick and plush, with a rich undercoat. It is medium in length and very soft.
Nutrition:
Marquise is fed three times a day: morning, afternoon, and evening. She loves to eat. However, it is recommended to feed these cats only twice a day.
Prohibited: fatty, fried, smoked foods, milk and fish products.
In addition to dry food, you can add natural products to the diet:
- raw beef;
- boiled chicken;
- fermented milk products, usually ryazhenka;
- quail eggs - less often chicken eggs;
- steamed oatmeal or buckwheat;
- boiled vegetables.
If you feed both dry food and natural foods, never combine them. Alternating is fine, but mixing is not.
For feeding, you should choose tall bowls with inward-curving edges, which will protect the animal’s fur from getting dirty with food.
Care of the breed:
- You shouldn't bathe your cat more than once every 2 months.
- Excessive tearing is typical for this breed, so the eyes and nose of exotics need to be regularly (once every 1-2 days) wiped with a cotton pad soaked in clean water or a special liquid.
- Using a special brush and soft tooth powder, brush your teeth once a week.
- Trim the nails or use special anti-scratch clips (Marquise's are pink in the photo below). Trim only the sharp edge of the nail (2–3 mm) to avoid damaging the blood vessels.
- To care for your ears, you will need cotton swabs and a special lotion every two to three weeks.
Character and virtues of a cat:
- Playful and curious, very unobtrusive.
- It takes time for cats to accept new people into their lives.
- They love games, but at the same time they cannot be called too active.
- Ready to go anywhere, but next to her beloved owner.
- Calm and friendly character;
- Beautiful appearance;
- Soft fur and fluffiness of wool;
- Attachment to people;
- Absolute lack of aggression towards animals;
- Expressive big eyes and a touching face.
Not entirely pleasant nuances of the breed:
- Discharge from the eyes and nose.
- Little activity in movement.
- High probability of developing genetic diseases.
Interesting facts:
- Exotics are clean and often lick themselves.
- They easily tolerate travel and relocation.
- The breed is easy to train and obedient.
- Has a playful nature, can be a cunning "thief" and steal treats from the table (see photo below).
The Exotic Shorthair is a unique, artificially bred cat. To become a true family favorite, it requires careful grooming, attention, and care.
