Sweet pea or vetch

The stems weave along the path,
The antennae are green and twisted,
Sweet pea flowers
The blue ones flew up into the sky,

And all summer long, in a colorful swarm,
Like butterflies flying, butterflies!
Enjoy this beauty,
China is amazing, a cutie!

Walking along a path where sweet peas are blooming, you get the feeling that you have accidentally scared away butterflies, and a colorful swarm has flown away in different directions.

I first planted sweet peas to screen a chain-link fence from a neighbor's neglected, overgrown property. The vines quickly wove themselves across the mesh, clinging to the mesh with their tendrils, and soon, wonderful, colorful, fragrant flowers appeared.

They bloomed brilliantly all summer, and when the first frosts came and many of the flowers withered, the hardy sweet peas continued to bloom.

I simply fell in love with this plant and the following year I bought seeds of different colors and a low-growing variety, which I grew in a pot.

Now I don't buy seeds; I sow my own. I grow peas and sweet vetch from seedlings. Before sowing, I soak the peas in hot water overnight.

The next day, I plant the seeds in a pot and leave them in the greenhouse. I sow them after April 10th, like many other annuals. First, I cover the pot with plastic wrap, and when the seedlings appear, I remove the plastic wrap.

I plant the seedlings in mid- to late May, tying them to twine to prevent the stems from falling over. At the beginning of the growing season, I fertilize them with an infusion of fermented grass for better growth, and throughout the summer I water them, remove weeds, and loosen the soil.

You can trim off faded flowers to promote longer flowering. If you're looking for seeds, I leave the pods. Once they've turned black and the peas inside have ripened, I collect the seeds.

I haven't encountered any pests on my peas. Even small aphids don't attack them, and I haven't encountered any diseases. Growing vetch is easy for me; the seeds always germinate, the seedlings grow well, and the peas bloom profusely.
