How to choose a white violet?
It's best to buy Saintpaulias at specialized stores or from violet growers. Unscrupulous sellers often offer counterfeit varieties that lack the varietal value.
- ✓ Check for pests under the leaves and on the stems.
- ✓ Make sure there are no signs of fungal diseases (spots, plaque).
To avoid problems, pay attention to the following nuances:
- Coloring of leaf blades. Violet leaves should be uniform or have a consistent pattern. Any unusual spots or stripes indicate disease.
- Rosette density. If the plant's center is tight and the stems and leaves are tightly packed together, be wary; this could be a sign of disease. It's best to choose a different plant.
- Condition of cuttings. Inspect the plant. If the leaf bases are elongated, it was grown from weak planting material and didn't receive enough sunlight. Avoid purchasing.
It's best to buy violets in the spring, as the plant will need to be repotted. Repotting in the summer or winter is highly undesirable, as it will make it more difficult for the root system to adapt to the new conditions.
White Violet Care Tips
Violets are generally considered demanding houseplants. Saintpaulias, with their snow-white blooms, are no exception. Therefore, provide the flower with the appropriate conditions and proper care.
Follow the basic rules:
- Priming. Buy special soil for violets or prepare your own potting mix. The soil should contain equal parts garden soil and river sand.
- Pot. The width of the violet pot should roughly correspond to its height. Choose a container with a neck several times smaller than the plant's rosette.
- Drainage layer. If you overwater, the violet roots may rot, so when planting the Saintpaulia, ensure drainage: lay down a thick layer of expanded clay or other suitable material.
- Lighting. Violets require sunlight, but direct sunlight can often cause leaf burn. It's best to place the flower pot in a shaded area, and provide additional lighting in winter.
- Temperature conditions. To grow white violets, the temperature should be between 20-22 degrees Celsius. The flower reacts negatively to sudden changes in room temperature, which can lead to death.
- Watering. Violets are considered capricious flowers, as they tolerate both too little and too much moisture. Water the plant twice every 7 days. Use warm, settled water.
- Fertilizers. Plant care includes timely fertilizing. The plant requires amino acids, vitamins, and microelements. Fertilize twice every seven days. After repotting, do not fertilize the violet for 30 days.
- Trimming. Although the violet is considered a miniature flower, it requires periodic pruning to maintain its attractive appearance and three-tiered shape. This procedure is also necessary to remove any yellowed lower leaves.
Prune along the older leaves, leaving only the central young rosette. If the plant is heavily overgrown with side shoots, cut or pull them out to expose the base.
White violets are especially popular. These flowers look unique and striking, and they can decorate interiors and complement any festive occasion. White violets come in a variety of captivating colors.
